A transformer on one in every of America’s tallest dams briefly caught fire on Tuesday morning earlier than the Hoover Dam fire brigade extinguished the flames.
No one became injured in the blaze and there's no disruption to the power grid, the Bureau of Reclamation stated in a statement. The blaze was extinguished inside about half-hour earlier than firefighters from the Boulder City fire department arrived on scene, the Nevada city stated on Facebook.
There isn't any risk to the electricity grid and power is still being generated from the powerhouse. We are investigating the motive of the fire and could offer additional updates as they may be available.
Social media video, unconfirmed and apparently taken through a tourist, confirmed a small explosion and smoke and fire coming from the bottom of the dam.
We arrived at the scene and came away. Everything became all set, stated Lisa LaPlante, Boulder City communications manager. “The fire was extinguished.”
No one was transported to the clinic through Boulder City emergency responders, she said, though different units had been at the scene.
The dam, finished in 1936, is constructed throughout the Colorado River at the Nevada-Arizona border and impounds Lake Mead, the most important reservoir in the United States. It is essential to the water supply of 25 million people, along with in the cities of Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson and Las Vegas.
